PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink-jet recording device which can carry out calibration based on visual patch selection, with high accuracy and in a manner using a relatively small number of patches, and to provide a calibration method. SOLUTION: According to the calibration method, patch recording and selection of patches that look like a true gray are carried out in two stages (S52, S53, and S54, S55). In this case, with respect to one color in patch data in a second group in the second stage, patch data having the same correction amount as that of patch data corresponding to a correction table determined in the first stage, is employed. Thus the patches of respective colors in the second group can be recorded in a manner maintaining the inclination of an ejection amount of a recording head of a color which is to be corrected according to the determined correction table, and therefore the number of the patches to be recorded is reduced.
