PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in which the outer shape of a liquid crystal lens needs to be highly accurately processed in order to be fitted in a lens frame under an outer shape reference, which leads to degradation in cost performance, yield, and reliability, and the problem in which a liquid crystal lens formed by a manufacturing method same as that for a conventional liquid panel and with the same accuracy in the size of an outer shape almost equal to that of a conventional liquid crystal panel causes displacement between the optical axis of the liquid crystal lens and that of other lens used in combination with the liquid crystal lens, which results in failure in obtaining stable imaging characteristics as a lens for a camera. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal lens, a plurality of positioning patterns are formed on the same flat face of a transparent substrate together with an electrode pattern used to function as a variable focal point. The lens frame is provided with positioning means the number of which is equal to that of the positioning patterns. While the positioning patterns and the positioning means are matched, the optical axis of the liquid crystal lens is aligned and fitted in the lens frame.
