PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method in which image deletion on a high hardness photoreceptor is prevented and good cleaning performance is maintained and by which a highly durable and good image can be output. SOLUTION: The image forming method comprises: charging a surface of the photoreceptor having a Vickers hardness (JIS) of≥500 kg/m<SP>2</SP>; forming an electrostatic latent image on the photoreceptor; developing the electrostatic latent image with a toner; and transferring the developed toner image to a transfer material, wherein an average gradientΔa in a 10×10μm range of the photoreceptor is 0.1-0.9, and when inorganic powder of perovskite type crystals in which primary particles have a cubic particle shape and/or a cuboidal particle shape and an average particle diameter of 30-300 nm are stuck on the photoreceptor surface and the primary average particle diameter of the inorganic powder is represented by Dμm, the formulae: 1<D/2Ra and D<4×(Ra/Δa) are satisfied with respect to relationships between surface roughness Ra and the average gradientΔa in the 10×10μm range of the photoreceptor.
