PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water gauge excellent in thunder resistance and noise resistance and having a reduced number of wirings in water. SOLUTION: The water gauge is provided with a water pressure detector housing to be thrown into water and provided with a hollow part in which water flows in through a water inflow opening; a rod lens mounted to the housing in such a way that a lower face may be exposed to the upper surface surrounding the hollow part; a diaphragm for water-tightly sealing with a gap to the lower face of the rod lens to be displaced by the pressure of water flowing in through the water inflow opening; an optical fiber connected to the rod lens; a light source connected to the optical fiber; an optical intensity sensor for detecting both the intensity of reflected light according to the amount of displacement of the diaphragm and the intensity of light emitted from the light source by the optical fiber; and an arithmetic means for computing a power ratio on the basis of the intensity of reflected light detected by the optical intensity sensor and the intensity of emitted light and determining a water level on the basis of both the previously measured power ratio between the intensity of reflected light and the intensity of incident light and a water pressure calibration curve of the rod lens.
