PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pad-type thermocouple capable of accurately measuring the temperature of a metal surface, an object of temperature measurement, by reducing the effects of radiation heat and being easily constructed on the spot. SOLUTION: The pad-type thermocouple 20 is provided with both a sheathed thermocouple 21 for measuring temperature and a pad member 23 mounted to the metal surface 30 by holding the periphery of a temperature-sensitive part 22 of the sheathed thermocouple 21. The pad-type thermocouple 20 is used in an environment which the metal surface 30 receives radiation heat. The pad member 23 is provided with both a temperature-sensitive-part installation part 25 open to the side the metal surface 30 and a part 26 filled with a low-thermal-conduction material and arranged in such a way as to shield the temperature-sensitive part 22 from radiation heat.
