<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position attitude measuring device capable of measuring position and posture in which both the stability and the accuracy are compatible. <P>SOLUTION: An image including an index arranged in a space is captured, and the index is detected from the captured image. When a plurality of indexes are detected, the algorithm for determining the distribution range and applying it to the calculation of the position posture according to its magnitude is selected (S3033, S3050, S3060). For example, when the indexes are distributed over a sufficiently wide range, six parameters of the position and the posture of an imaging device are calculated as unknowns (S3070).
