The apparatus has a color space converter to convert a color space of an input signal to a device-independent color space and to output a color signal. An intersection point detector (203) detects an intersection point between a surface of a color gamut of the color signal and a plane of a uniform hue. A control vector calculator (205) calculates a control vector corresponding to a primary color value of the detected point. An independent claim is also included for a method of detecting a color gamut of a color device.
