PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite head which aligns a center of magnetic field application area or magnetic sensing area with a center of light irradiation area and has a high energy efficiency thereby achieving satisfied magnetic recording/reproducing, and to provide a magnetic recording/reproducing device equipped therewith. SOLUTION: The composite head 10 for recording is mounted with a semiconductor laser 1 for irradiating a recording area of recording medium 12 with light and a magnetic field application section 3 which is transparent with respect to a wavelength of the light generated by a semiconductor laser 1 so as to apply the magnetic field to the recording area. A light source is composed of the semiconductor laser 1. The semiconductor laser 1 and the magnetic field application section 3 are horizontally arranged in line each other in an evernescent field so that the light irradiating direction of the semiconductor laser 1 and the magnetic field application direction of the magnetic field application section 3 become parallel to each other.
