PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable radio in which good transmission quality is obtained with a small processing load. SOLUTION: A portable terminal 10 is formed with a main part MB, an enclosure CV1 connected rotatably at one edge of the main body MB, and an enclosure CV2 connected rotatably at another side edge of the main body MB. An antenna 12a, an antenna 12b, and an antenna 12c are provided in the main body MB, the enclosure CV1 and the enclosure CV2, respectively. Among these, an arbitrary one is connected with a telephony processing circuit with one switch. A CPU periodically detects a corresponding receiving level at the antennas 12a-12c, and switches the linking of the switch according to a detection result. When the open or closed conditions of the enclosures CV1 and CV2 show a specific state, this switch control is suspended, and the fixed selecting of the antenna 12a is made which becomes large by the probability for receiving level to be sufficiently higher than the receiving level of other antennas.
