PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve error correction of data received by the reception side while reducing a data amount transmitted from the transmission side to the reception side compared with a conventional data transmission/reception system. SOLUTION: A multimedia data distribution device 1 is provided with a data transmission means for transmitting data to a terminal device 2, and a means for discriminating whether or not errors occur in the data received by the terminal device 2. The terminal device 2 is provided with a means for receiving the data from the data distribution device 1, a means for generating an error detection code of the received data, and an error detection code transmission means for transmitting the generated error detection code to the multimedia data distribution device 1. A means for discriminating the presence or the absence of errors discriminates whether or not the errors occur in the multimedia data received by the terminal device 2 on the basis of the error detection code transmitted from the terminal device 2. The data transmission means retransmits the multimedia data to the terminal device 2 when it is discriminated that the errors occur in the multimedia data received by the terminal device 2.
