PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can carry out a purging process of recovering the performance of ejecting ink at a high speed, and moreover in which an ink receiving means for receiving the ink at the purging process can be arranged compact. SOLUTION: A first ink receiving part 13 has a region larger than a region occupied by all nozzles, as a region for receiving the ink ejected from the nozzles. The ink ejected altogether from a plurality of recording heads 5 can be received at a time, so that the purging process can be carried out at the high speed. The first ink receiving part 13 is constituted to at least partly overlap with a cap unit 12 located at a non capping position seen from a direction which intersects a nozzle-formed face, in a state while the receiving part 13 is located at a non ink-reception position.
