PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a testing device of a power transmission system that allows an application of a generation torque of an appropriate dynamometer to a power transmission system including a power source and test even when the inertial amount on a specimen side is not determined, and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: The testing device comprises the dynamometer that is connected to the power transmission system via a shaft and generating torque to the shaft or that simulates the power source and generates torque to an output shaft, and a speed detecting means 4 for detecting a real speedωof the dynamometer. The testing device also comprises a control means 5 that estimates the speed of the dynamometer using one inertial system as a model, estimates the shaft torque by multiplying the deviation of the estimated speedω^ from the real speedωby a proportional gain G, and controls the generated torqueτ<SB>L</SB>of the dynamometer so that the inertial amount of the dynamometer seen from the power source based on an estimated shaft torqueτ<SB>S</SB>^ and the inertial amount J<SB>L</SB>of the power source simulated by the dynamometer become a desired amount Jx.
