<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a single-sided dual-layer optical recording medium wherein satisfactory recording and playback characteristics can be obtained from two information layers, to provide its recording and playback method and to provide an optical recording and reproducing apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: In the dual-layer optical recording medium which has first and second substrates and a first information layer, an intermediate layer and a second information layer between the first and the second substrates in this order and wherein a laser beam is made incident from the first substrate side to perform at least either one of recording and reproduction of information, both the first and the second information layers have dye containing recording layers containing an organic dye, the first information layer has a first dye containing recording layer, a first reflection layer and a first protective layer in this order from the laser beam incident side, the first protective layer has a refractive index n of ≥1.6 in the wavelength of the laser beam and the thickness d of the first protective layer satisfies the following expression: 0<d≤λ/2n (λ denotes the wavelength of the laser beam). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
