摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a nano-unit irregular structure, which is formed on a magnetic layer of a magneto-optical recording medium, from being destroyed due to the irradiation of the medium with a laser beam of excessive power, so as to sufficiently exhibit an effect in the magneto-optical recording medium. SOLUTION: A test recording area as well as a data recording area is set, and irregular structures are formed at least on the magnetic layers of the data recording area and test recording area with a pitch which is shorter than the wavelength of a laser beam for recording. When recording laser power is set, test recording is made to the test recording area, and a variation in reflectance before and after the test recording is measured. At that time, when a reflectance after the test recording increases at a prescribed rate or more, the power is reduced since the laser power is excessively large. When a reflectance after the test recording does not exceed a prescribed rate, whether data subjected to the test recording can adequately be reproduced is determined.
