PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a symbol input method allowing a user to further conveniently input a symbol; and to provide a communication terminal using it. SOLUTION: This communication terminal to input characters by using a fingerprint pattern of a user is characterized by being composed by including: a fingerprint recognizer; a control part searching a symbol matched to the fingerprint pattern recognized through the fingerprint recognizer; and an output part to output the symbol. Thereby, the symbol can be input by using the fingerprint pattern of the user, whereby the symbol can be conveniently directly input while entering characters without changing over a character input mode to a symbol input mode and a character string can be further rapidly created.
