PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent too early involvement timing of a safety system so that a recognition width of a vehicle outside target may not be longer than an actual width as much as possible, in a vehicle which involves the safety system by recognizing a vehicle outside target ahead of an own vehicle through sensor fusion of the ranging radar and an image sensor. SOLUTION: Even if a width (a radar width) of the vehicle outside object with a radar width detector detected from the exploration results of the ranging radar 5 is different from a width (an image width) of the vehicle outside target detected from image recognition of an image picked up by a camera (an image sensor) 4 of an image width detector, a width decision device selects a shorter one of the radar width or the image width to a recognized width of the vehicle outside target and decides the selected width, so that the recognized width of the vehicle outside target may not be longer than an actual width as much as possible.
