PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium for storing additional information and a recording/editing apparatus for supporting specific functions among manufacturers, to provide a method therefor, and also to provide an apparatus for reproducing the manufacturer information for supporting the specific functions. SOLUTION: If a recording apparatus modifies the contents of the recording medium, then the manufacturer's identification code should be recorded. A recording apparatus/ reproducing apparatus should check the identification code on the recording medium before using its own manufacturer information item for some specific function.
