PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for processing packet transfer in which a packet transfer processing apparatus at the ingress of a packet transfer network resolves an identifier of a packet transfer processing apparatus at the egress of the packet transfer network and an identifier of a transmission destination port in the apparatus on the basis of an address on the packet transfer network included in a received packet when building up a logical packet transfer network on a physical transfer network. SOLUTION: The method and apparatus are characterized in that the packet transfer processing apparatus 1 at the ingress of the packet transfer network transfers the packet with transmission destination communication port information attached thereto to the packet transfer processing apparatus 6 at the egress of the packet transfer network, so that the packet transfer processing apparatus 6 at the egress of the packet transfer network needs not to carry out the transmission destination communication port resolution processing using address information on the packet transfer network.
