PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning system which prevents the size over the entire part of an image forming apparatus from increasing and can perform stable cleaning of a toner with satisfactory accuracy, and also to provide an image forming apparatus using the same. SOLUTION: The cleaning apparatus for removing the toner on an object to be cleaned which is adhered with the toner on the surface and moves is equipped with a blade which has a plate shape, extends to an upstream side in the moving direction of the object to be cleaned, and the top end of which abuts on the surface of the object to be cleaned and scraps off the toner from the surface, and a toner holding member which is disposed on the rear surface side with respect to the surface facing the object to be cleaned of the front and rear surface of the blade, partly protrudes to the upstream side of the top end of the blade, holds the toner between the protruding portion and the object to be cleaned, and is provided with a flow passage to allow the held toner to flow toward the rear surface side of the blade.
