Chemical sensor has carbon-nano tubes with a surface that is connected to an evaluation unit (5). A reference electrode (3) has a surface made of electrically conducting material containing gold and limits a gap with the surface. An electrolyte containing a substance to be detected is introduced into the gap and contacts the electrode and surface. The unit detects an electrical voltage and current developed between the electrode and surface. An independent claim is also included for a method of manufacturing a chemical sensor for detecting oxizable or reducible substance.
