A stabilization system (10) for implantation in a patient includes: a bone anchor (100) including a head (102) and a shaft (106), the shaft (106) extending away from the head (102) in a bone insertion direction and being operable for connection to a bone of the patient; and a tulip (200) including: at least one channel (206) having an opening for receiving an elongate member (20), the opening being oriented in a receiving direction having at least a component thereof substantially opposite to the bone insertion direction of the anchor (100), and a fastening mechanism (208) operable to apply a tangential load on the elongate member (20) to maintain the elongate member (20) within the channel (206), wherein the tangential load is transverse to at least the receiving direction.
