<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a routing method coping with an overlay network, having the scalability of an Internet scale and capable of achieving QoS, and an overlay node for performing such routing. <P>SOLUTION: For each overlay node, characteristics relating to QoS including delay time, a packet loss rate and an available band are measured for each link with at least one adjacent overlay node, and path information to which QoS information indicating the characteristics measured for the link pertinent to a received path message is added is stored. From paths whose origin is a user terminal indicated in the received path message, the path with which the realization of the highest QoS can be expected is selected as a path to be utilized on the basis of the QoS information included in the corresponding path information.
