The invention concerns a hybrid system of multiple-access gateway/generator for testing equipment connection link to at least one equipment to be tested connected to the multi-access gateway via an input/output port of specific technology. The system comprises at least means for generating (104, 105) a plurality of data packets transmitted to the equipment to be tested in accordance with a traffic profile associated with the equipment and/or the connection technology, means for monitoring the data traffic to/from said equipment to be tested, means (109, 110, 111) for storing statistical data defined based on the connection technology and on the input/output port used by the equipment. The statistical data are established during the transmission of the plurality of data packets transmitted and/or during the monitoring to generate global statistics representing the connection mode and the input/output port supporting said connection of said equipment to the multiple-access gateway. The invention is useful for implementing and technical management of LAN's, or more generally IP networks.
