<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately make printing, considering characteristics of a printer when a client PC transmitting a print instruction to a file server for controlling and editing electronic documents, and the output printer are connected through a network. <P>SOLUTION: The characteristics of the output printer means information such as the number of resolution to be output, kinds of finisher functions, available binding methods, and corresponding characteristic versions. A client transmits the print instruction on the basis of these information, the file server FS compresses the electronic documents by making use of these information, and the file server transmits the electronic documents to an output printer.
