PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To horizontally maintain the movement of a flexible film of a negative pressure generating means which is installed in a head tank and to exactly detect the movement amount of the plane part. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder has a head tank 2, which stores a supplied ink and feeds the ink to a recording head 7 mounted in a carriage, and a negative pressure generating means which is installed in the head tank 2 and makes the pressure in the same tank 2 negative. The negative pressure generating means is composed of a spring 3 for generating a pressure which extends to the side direction of the head tank 2, flexible film materials 4a, 4b provided on the side of the head tank 2 so as to cover the spring 3, and a plane part 5 parallel to the side. The head tank 2 is connected to the recording head 7 and has an ink feed port 11 for feeding the ink in the head tank 2 to the recording head 7. The ink feed port 11 is arranged in countering the center section of the negative pressure generating means in the head tank 2.
