PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device in which excellent lighting characteristics can be obtained and variation in current of each discharge lamp can be eliminated. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device is equipped with an inverter 2 for converting a DC voltage into a high frequency voltage and N pieces (N is a positive integer) of discharge lamps 11-14 and N+1 pieces of transformers T1-T5. A n-th discharge lamp (n=1-N) and a primary winding of n+1st transformer and a secondary winding of the n-th transformer are connected in in series between the output terminals M1 and M2 of the inverter 2, and the primary winding of the first transformer and the secondary winding of the N+1st transformer are connected in series.
