PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and method, computer program and recording medium capable of optimizing a relation between the quantity of information that can be added as additional information, and the amount of check bits for error correction. SOLUTION: When a predetermined printer 15 is designated from a machine type ID acquisition unit 18, an error-correcting parameter is determined by an error-correcting parameter determination unit 17 in accordance with a type of the designated printer 15. The determined error-correcting parameter is then used to perform error-correcting encoding on additional information x(i) in an error-correcting encoding unit 13, and multiplex information y<SB>1</SB>(j) is generated. Furthermore, the multiplex information y<SB>1</SB>(j) is embedded in image information D1 in an additional information multiplexing unit 14 and input to the printer 15 as image information D2.
