PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of printing print documents composed of a plurality of pages in a bookbinding format by automatically recognizing them as bookbinding printed matters, and also, capable of processing and printing the documents automatically recognized as the bookbinding printed matters in the same way as the normal copying by holding them for each page, and a printing processing method. SOLUTION: The printer executes printing with a desired method after executing detection of documents by using a bookbinding trace detection means for detecting bookbinding traces of the print documents from scan information of the print documents, a layout constitution recognizing means for recognizing layout constitution of the print documents from the scan information and the detected bookbinding traces of the print documents, and a means for automatically holding the page layout which stores the documents for each page together with the layout recognized by the layout constitution recognizing means and printing designation inputted from the outside.
