PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which is made small-sized, manufactured at low cost, and equipped with an optical sensor, and also to provide a driver IC usable therefor. SOLUTION: The display device is equipped with: a display panel 1; a vertical driving circuit 15 and a horizontal driving circuit 18 driving the display panel 1; an optical sensor 9 which is formed in the display panel 1 and outputs a signal corresponding to the intensity of ambient light; and a detecting circuit 14 which detects the intensity of the ambient light on the basis of the signal outputted by the optical sensor 9.
