PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing chitosan nanoparticles using a simple operation and reduced amount of organic solvents. SOLUTION: The method for producing chitosan nanoparticles comprises dissolving chitosan in an aqueous acid solution to obtain an aqueous chitosan solution and adding the aqueous chitosan solution to an aqueous alkali solution. The chitosan particles are obtained by the production method. The coating composition contains the chitosan particles.
