PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a scintillator with sufficiently great fluorescence output and sufficiently short fluorescence decaying time and to provide a scintillator. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the method for producing the scintillator comprising a process reducing content of chlorine in an inorganic solid, a process melting the inorganic solid with reduced chlorine content by the reducing process and obtaining a molten liquid, and a process solidifying the molten liquid to obtain the scintillator containing cerium as a luminescence center in base material.
