METHOD FOR PRODUCING ALCOHOL

Disclosed is a method for producing an alcohol from fats and oils which includes the following steps 1 and 2. Step 1: A step wherein a raw material fat and oil is reacted with water for producing a reaction product containing a glycerin backbone. Step 2: A step wherein the reaction product obtained in the step 1 is hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst while having not less than 0.5 mole of water coexist per 1 mole of glycerin backbone contained in the reaction product.
