<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform highly reliable user authentication more easily by utilizing an existing ID card for user identification. <P>SOLUTION: In this authentication system, a compound machine for customer 12 reads in advance an existing ID card 42 possessed by a specific user and, based on the obtained image data, acquires the user's personal information, and stores the personal information as registered user information. After this, when the specific user desires to perform operation or the like of the compound machine for customer 12, the specific user first makes an auxiliary compound machine 14 read the ID card 42. The auxiliary compound machine 14 issues an authentication ticket 44 with the obtained personal information printed on a paper medium as individual specific information. The specific user makes the compound machine for customer 12 read the authentication ticket 44.
