PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the a pickup from being damaged even when an impact force in the moving direction of the pickup is applied to a device main body. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a rack in a pickup 3, and a driving gear rotary-driven by a driving motor 5 and engaged with the rack to move the pickup 3 in the radial direction of a disk 200. In this case, a retreating control means 212 is provided to move the pickup 3 to a retreating position apart to the outer peripheral side by a predetermined distance from an inner peripheral side limit position which is the innermost peripheral side position of the movable range of the pickup 3 when a state is different from the operation state when using the pickup 3.
