PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a high collation rate in a short time for comparison and collation by using a simple and inexpensive processing system and a convenient collation algorithm. SOLUTION: In a collation method for performing biometrics collation using an image, the comparison amount for performing the collation is a rotation invariant amount determined from gradation of the image by arithmetic calculation. The rotation invariant amount is the one determined from the brightness gradation matrix of the Cartesian coordinates. The rotation invariant amount may be calculated from a matrix obtained by subjecting the brightness gradation matrix to polar coordinate transformation.
