The present invention relates to cyclopenta[a]naphthalene derivatives of the general formulae I to V in which B, Z, A, n, R, X¹, X^1a, X^1b, X², X³, E¹ and E² are as defined in the claims, to the use thereof in liquid-crystalline media, to liquid-crystalline media comprising at least one of these cyclopenta[a]naphthalene derivatives, and to electro-optical display elements containing these liquid-crystalline media.
