PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of correcting the relative position in the horizontal direction to correct an error by each taper angle in a smaller number of times of correction as much as possible to satisfy the machining shape accuracy required for taper cut gradually changing in taper angle. SOLUTION: In this wire cut electric discharge machining method, when the taper direction is different between the starting point and the end point of a program block, the dividing angle of a rotating angle is obtained so that the maximum value of a difference between a circular arc taking a correction amount as a radius and taking the rotating angle of a wire electrode as the central angle and a unit dividing straight line is within an allowable error, and the rotating angle is divided by the dividing angle to determine the number of divisions. When the taper directions are the same, the dividing angle to a change amount of a command taper angle is obtained from the command taper angle, the displacement of a fulcrum and the allowable error so that the correction amount is within the allowable error, and the change amount is divided by the dividing angle to determine the number of divisions. The program locus is equally divided by the determined number of divisions to obtain the correction amount in the horizontal direction at each dividing point, and correct the relative position.
