In the operation of a projectile loom, the projectile (6) carries a length of weft yarn (7) through the shed (5) formed by the warps (1,2). After each start action, the loom is run slowly for the first weaving cycle but at a sufficient speed to carry the projectile through the shed with a weft. At the end of the first weaving cycle, the loom speed is accelerated to its normal working level.
