The chain has a number of chain units (3) with openings (4a, 4b) for receiving bearing bolts (5a, 5b), respectively, in order to arrange the chain units. The openings are designed as oblong holes in a longitudinal direction of a chain to allow a clearance opposite to the bearing bolts, so that it effectively shortens the chain division in a thrust mode compared to a traction mode. An independent claim is also included for a chain drive with a thrust chain.
