922,041. Fuel elements. H. N. SCHLUDI. March 29, 1961 [April 14, 1960], No. 11602/61. Class 39 (4). In a heterogeneous nuclear reactor in which the fuel elements are operated at a high temperature, the production of mechanical stresses between the fuel and the canning is reduced by heating the fuel elements when the reactor power falls to a level at which element temperature reaches a predetermined level. As shown, the fuel elements 1, 2 are interconnected by rods 3, 3<SP>1</SP> are supplied with heating current from a source 15. The controller 16 adjusts the current from 15 in correspondence with the reactor temperature.
