<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for coating paper characterized as improving the whiteness of paper consisting essentially of cellulosic fibers and ink-jet printing suitability in a well-balance state and to provide paper for ink-jet recording using the composition. <P>SOLUTION: The composition for coating the paper is characterized as comprising a fluorescent dye (A), a polymer (B) obtained by copolymerizing monomers containing a diallyldimethylammonium salt, a dye fixing agent (C) and a cationic polymer (D) prepared by copolymerizing monomers containing styrenes and/or alkyl (meth)acrylates and a cationic monomer.
