METHOD FOR QUANTITATING POLYCHLOROBIPHENYL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for quantitating PCBs by fully removing coexisting substances that are contained in a hydrophobic sample containing polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs) and interfere with the quantitation of the PCBs with a simple operation. SOLUTION: The method for quantitating PCBs includes a process for bringing the hydrophobic sample into contact with a carrier impregnated with oleum, where a porous carrier is impregnated with oleum having an SO3concentration of 5-15 percentage by mass as the pretreatment process. The porous carrier is preferably diatomaceous earth. The hydrophobic sample is added to a column filled with the carrier impregnated with the oleum for passing. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
