PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device, such as a DVD device and the like used in AV equipment, a personal computer and the like, for expanding an adjustable range of the relative position between an optical disk and a guide shaft for guiding travel of an optical head and making the device thinner by preparing a shaft position adjusting means. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a shaft 40 guiding the travel of the optical head 70; an adjusting screw 60 fixed by screwing to a chassis 21 being attached with them and having an aperture part 21a; and a twisting spring 50 which energizes the small-diameter part 44 of the shaft 40, which abuts on the back side of the head part 61 of the adjusting screw 60, so that the small-diameter part may be pressed. Then, the upper and lower positions of the shaft 40 are adjusted by the adjusting screw 60. An adjusting range is increased by an amount corresponding to the level difference of the small-diameter part 44, and the height of the head part 61 is suppressed, and consequently the large diameter part of the shaft 40 can be inserted in the aperture part 21a to make the position of the shaft 40 low.
