PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance print quality by preventing impinging position shifts of ink droplets and the excessive ink droplet ejection even likely to be subjected to an ink residual meniscus vibration that would occur in cases such as a print and a non-print commands are alternatively repeated in an ink ejection device and a method for driving the device. SOLUTION: In the ink ejection device and the method for driving the device, a drive waveform 1 is used for ejecting four ink droplets per dot in a continuous printing. In the event of no print command being present immediately prior and after, a highly stable printing can be performed by selecting a drive waveform 2 which has a smaller number of ejection droplets per dot instead of using the drive waveform 1 even under conditions where problems such as an impinging position may be shifted because of a distorted ink ejection direction or excessive ink droplets may be ejected, by the use of the drive waveform 1.
