The method involves arranging a memory unit and a non-volatile memory unit on a wafer. Identification data to be stored in a radio frequency identification tag (201) are stored into the former memory unit using a data supply unit during a storage phase. The data are transferred parallel to the former memory unit and are durably stored into the non-volatile memory unit during another phase. The tag is isolated after the latter phase.
