Rayon tyre cords, made from yarns that have not been subjected to a slashing operation by wetting and stretching them, and having a substantially higher extensibility than desired in the rubber body in which they are to be embedded, are wetted with an aqueous solution of a cord-to-rubber bonding agent, then stretched whilst wet at least 10% to reduce the extensibility to the point desired when in the rubber body and then dried whilst being maintained in a stretched condition. The rayon cords, before treatment, may be formed by spinning a plurality of rayon tyre yarns and twisting the yarns or twiting bundles of rayon filaments to form yarns, and cabling a plurality of the yarns together in the direction opposite the twist to form the cord. The cords may be made into a fabric before wetting them. The bonding agent may be resorcinol, formaldehyde and latex.
