A bi-curvature lens 400 for use in infrared wireless communication, e.g. as a light emitting device, a light detecting device, or a transceiver has a bottom hemispherical portion 410 and a top aspherical portion 420. Light emitting diodes and photo detectors used in conjunction with bi-curvature lenses display symmetrical radiation intensity profiles, in accordance with Infrared Data Association standards and protocols.
