Each stator pole coil (10, 20, 30) is connected in parallel to a capacitor. The rotor (100) comprises a semi-hard ferromagnetic material. The rotor shaft (140) supports a second rotor comprising a soft ferromagnetic material and provided with excitation coils. A means is included for providing a DC connection to the rotor coils. The second rotor cooperates with the stator poles (72-74) and their coils so that a magnetic field generated in the second rotor by the stator pole coil load current is compensated for or eliminated.
