<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display device increasing the number of display gradations. <P>SOLUTION: A plasma display panel is provided with display cells in which magnesium oxide layers including magnesium oxide crystals are formed, which are excited by radiation of electron beams to emit cathode luminescent light having a peak within 200 to 300 nm wavelength region. When the plasma display panel is driven, not only a scan pulse is applied to one row electrodes of respective row electrode pairs of the plasma display panel but also pixel data pulses corresponding to pixel data based on a video signal are applied to column electrodes, whereby address discharge is brought about selectively in the display cells to form wall charges within the display cells. A sustain pulse is applied between row electrodes of respective row electrode pairs to make sustain discharge of only display cells wherein wall charges are formed, and then an erase pulse is applied between row electrodes of respective row electrode pairs to make erase discharge of display cells wherein wall charges are formed, and the wall charges are erased. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
