PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation method for a compression ignition internal combustion engine for performing diesel combustion at high load time and performing premixed compression self-ignition combustion at low load time using single fuel. SOLUTION: Diesel combustion is performed at high load time and premixed compression self-ignition combustion is performed at low load time using fuel containing base fuel made of one kind of compound or more selected from a group composed of hydrocarbon, alcohol, and ether or fatty acid ester of 95 to 99.5 wt% and additive made of one kind of compound or more selected from a group composed of organic peroxide, nitric ester, and nitrous ester or azo compound of 0.1 to 5 wt%. As the additive, one kind of compound selected from a group composed of di-tert-butylperoxide as organic peroxide, n-pentylnitrate as nitric ester, and n-pentylnitrate as nitrous ester can be used.
